Casciana Terme Casciana Terme is approx. 35 km from Pisa, in a hilly region between the rivers Casciana and Era, fascinating countryside dominated by vineyards and century-old olive groves. It is one of the most important towns in Colline Pisane. It was probably founded during the Etruscan period; the town was already mentioned in the 9th century chronicles as "Castrum ad Aquas" which indicates a thermal spa town in those days. The roads in the centre of the thermal spa town have retained their original charm - a walk to Casciana Alta or Pietraia is full of surpises and things to see: the small castle, the columned walks and the barns carved in volcanic limestone; then there is Collemontanino, Parlascio and Ceppato with their houses, towers, paths and pine groves. There are further sights to see nearby in Volterra with its Etruscan treasures; the predominantly medieval towns of San Miniato and San Gimignano; Castiglioncello with its rocky coastline and Versilia between the beach and sophisticated life.
